Menino Hospitalized With Skin Infection

By Adam Reilly

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino is out-of-commission Tuesday following a skin infection that developed while he was traveling in Italy.

According to a mayoral spokesperson, Menino scraped his elbow in Florence while attending an urban-development conference. The mayor returned home last night and saw his primary-care physician this morning.

After Menino’s doctor diagnosed him with septic bursitis, he was admitted to Brigham and Women’s, where he’s being treated with an intravenous antibiotic drip for the next day. The spokesperson calls it a “routine treatment.”

Menino’s health setback will cause him to miss the kickoff of Boston’s Holiday Main Streets program Tuesday, as well as the Table of Friends homeless luncheon at the TD BankNorth Garden.
