Basic Black: Black Wealth and "The Birth of a Nation"

This week, Basic Black discussed banking at African American owned financial institutions and how a call to action on social media gave rise to a surge of new customer deposits and whether that trend will continue.  Next, we followed up on the film, “The Birth of a Nation,” and the film sales after its opening weekend and if the controversy surrounding the actor, director and producer impacted the success of the film.  The panel also explored the merits of the film and separating the work of an artist versus the art. Hosted by Callie Crossley, our guests panelists included Kim McLarin of Emerson College, Pastor Matthew K. Thompson of Jubilee Christian Church, Darnell Williams of the Urban League of Eastern Mass., Teri Williams of OneUnited Bank, and Michael Jeffries of Wellesley College.
