Diana – Her Story

It has been twenty years since Princess Diana was killed in a car crash - but to many of us, Diana’s story remains incomplete.

Britain in the early 1980s was in turmoil - more divided than it had been for decades. The country needed a fairy tale, and at first, the marriage of Diana and Charles seemed to outsiders that it might live up to those expectations. But by 1992, the marriage was in trouble.

Diana - Her Story, reveals the arc of Diana’s lifestory. Her ambitions and fears - for herself and her children - are all explored. Featuring fresh material on the Princess, including new statements from Diana’s bodyguard Ken Wharfe, her Private Secretary Patrick Jephson, and other key characters that are able to speak more freely as time has passed.

As her marriage to Prince Charles began to crumble, Diana felt that she needed to carve her own path in the world. Spending several months with speech coach Peter Settelen, she polished her speaking style and determined how she wanted to present herself. Central to Diana’s transformation into one of the most famous woman in the world, these sessions were captured with an home video camera - and what that footage shows is the only known, unmediated footage of Diana. Through this lens, we see her as perhaps only those closest to her did: lively, mischievous, humorous and charming.

Diana - Her Story tells the life-journey of a strong, though sometimes flawed, young woman widely revered by many. Of a mother determined to do everything in her power to protect her children. Of a life, filled with successes and weaknesses. While the Diana story has moved from an extraordinary episode in our immediate past to one beginning to resemble history, the emotional power of her story is as significant as ever.
