Women Outward Bound

Women Outward Bound profiles the first group of young women to participate in an Outward Bound survival school course in 1965. The documentary takes the viewer on a journey over many decades with archival footage, home videos, and stunning aerial footage of the lush yet challenging Minnesota wilderness. In the end, this film proves that girls could always handle the difficult challenges given by nature—they just needed to be given the chance.

ABOUT SHATTER THE LENS

In 2017, only 12%, or 30, of the top 250 films were directed by women (The Celluloid Ceiling, 2017). The film industry remains the same today: male-dominated. In a #TimesUp moment when Natalie Portman is able to say, “And here are the all-male nominees,” Women’s History Month provides a unique opportunity to showcase the accomplishments of female filmmakers.

In March, World Channel is featuring over 40 films & programs for Women’s History Month, including premieres from award-winning series America ReFramed and Doc World.
